Oak Grove Elementary

Dekalb County Schools

Oak Grove has a new principal!

Dear Oak Grove Students, Staff, and Parents,

Please allow me the opportunity to introduce myself. To help you with my last name, it is pronounced “mow-born.” I’ve heard many variations, as you can imagine! I am very excited to be named as your new principal and look forward to working with you to maintain the high standards of academic excellence for which Oak Grove is known.

I am a product of DeKalb County, graduating from Towers High School. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University and realizing this was not the right career path for me, I returned to school to earn my certification for middle grades. From 1985 – 1989, I worked as a paraprofessional at Bob Mathis and Avondale Elementary.

After completing the requirements for certification at West Georgia College, I taught sixth and seventh grades at Avondale Elementary from 1989 – 1999. I transferred to Montgomery Elementary, where I taught fourth and sixth grades from 1999 until 2007 when I was called out of the classroom to begin my administrative journey.

As a member of the 2007 DeKalb Educators Leadership Training Academy cohort, I was selected to be an administrative intern. My assignments for 2007 – 2008 were at Oak Grove Elementary and Tilson Elementary. During the 2008 – 2009 school year I served as an intern at Allgood Elementary.

After serving as the assistant principal at Kingsley Charter School, I was selected to lead the Brockett community as principal the last five years. I have a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University, as well as certification in the following areas/fields: PK – 5, 4 – 8 (science, social studies, English/language arts), Gifted, and Teacher Support Specialist.

I am a native Atlantan, married the same, and have no children of my own. I love model trains, traveling, music, and spending time with my niece and nephew. My faith, family, and friends are very important to me and keep me grounded.

Due to my participation in a conference the last week of June, I had to shift my vacation back two weeks. I will be back at work July 20.

I am excited about returning to Oak Grove and look forward to working with all of you as we serve the children and community of Oak Grove.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lynda Mauborgne
